The Journal of NYC was founded on a simple premise: New York is the most complex machine in the world, and most people don't know how it works.

We are not a lifestyle blog. We do not care about the hottest new speakeasy in Dimes Square or which celebrity bought a penthouse in Tribeca. We care about the MTA's capital budget shortfall. We care about zoning laws in East New York. We care about the math behind the broker fee.

Our Approach

We believe in data over rhetoric. Every piece we publish is rooted in primary sources: budget documents, transit ridership data, court filings, and real estate tax records.
